i agree for the most part but i was suprised today when i was in auguary (spellcheck) and some people were asking for hints on fighting the mirror and i chimed with my ideas and a lot of others were doing the same i've found that most of the heavy trading goes on in ascalon city while the other cities and outposts are mostly quiet and if you ask a question pertaining to the business at hand then you will probably get some help but there's always the a holes out there who will just give you some smart answer so like in every aspect of life you have to take the good and try to filter out the bad and try to make friends in game and i'm sure they'll help as much as they can

Yes...people are annoying. Not to bright when it comes to manners.

I have tried adjusting my Brightness knob on my monitor. Doesn't seem to be working though.

That is very true indeed. I was going on a run through Dragon's Lair to capture skills on the other day and mind you that I was the only monk and there wasn't single other player that had Monk as a Second profession even and all of them rushed to combat as though the other 7 players were all tanks which most of them were not. The result was that I was overwhelmed because monks can only heal so much. I received all kinds of abuses, from being called a bad player to retarded and whatnot.

Well, sorry about that. Getting back to topic. I am almost never in town for too long but it is true that it's hard to get some helpful answers. It almost made me give up on the game if it wasn't for the 50 bucks I spent buying the game. However, it is also true that there are some very few charitable souls out there who help you and that is a relief.

Moreover, since I've suffered a lot with that, now I try my best to help whenever I have the opportunity but I really wished that people were a bit more friendly and polite.

I can admit to being one of the examples of people stated on the first post, but I do often enough respond to questions that don't go along the lines of "is there a merchant in this town?".

The real problem with people is that the more savant players are constantly spammed with stupid questions, and it's a basic response not to answer a question that seems undirected. Simply going around asking Where is the Sigil for Guild Hall? is just as annoying as the trade channel. It's not intended for anyone in particular, so it's easy enough to ignore it. The issue in this thread is that there are so many of these questions that they drown out the productive questions, making the community seem like ignoramouses.

My suggestion is to get into conversation then ask, or wait until you're in a good party with people who don't rush off on their own, then beg the question.

Half the questions that are asked can be found in the Online Manual or the manual that comes with the game if you bought it at a store. People don't bother to read anymore and just assume that someone in the game will give them a crash course. Back in the day games use to come with novel size manuals and very few games could be played without at least going through most of it. People are getting lazy and expect others to do it for them. I went back to ascalon with my level 20 warrior to hand out some weapons to folks who needed them and I was invited into 3 different groups all looking for the same thing "Will you rush us to the next area". I felt rather insulted that after putting an assload of time into getting to where I was that that many people didn't even want to bother working through the game normally.

Sure I might seem like one of those jerks, and I'm fairly sure someone reading this is like "what an ass!" But don't get me wrong. If its a legit question thats not in the manual or not like "can someone take me somewhere" (just an example) I'll take the time to answer it even through the spam, although I'll only answer it once, if your not watching your screen that's your own fault. But I would say that the game would be alot better if some folks were alot less "nice" and made people get off their lazy digital butts and explore.

In Guild Wars, as in real life, things would be better if people did the right thing regardless of the response they get. In other words, courtesy is NEVER a bad response, even if the person you are courteous to is rotten.

I always thank my group. I always offer an answer if I have it. I always apologize when I screw up. I don't care what other people do. It is about ME doing the right thing. Yes it is just a game. But it is an environment where nobody makes you behave a certain way. It is your chance to see what your true colors are. If you enjoy being a jerkwad in a game, I bet the only reason you are not a jerkwad in real life is because the cost is too high. What does that say about you?

I bet it says your essential nature is that of a jerkwad.

Well, having a good guild does alot for the fun factor of this game. In a guild with friends i know(or friends of guild members) and my bro. Its a fun fun guild for us. Currently i am the highest level character followed up by my bro. As it stands to help increase the overall level of kindness of the community we have spent the time to sit in towns and answer questions to people.
I was in pre searing with my new character a few days back, and just sat in foibles fair for roughly 2-3 hours answering questions and giving directions. I spend about 3 hours that day as well helping people with missions post searing.

I really think that this game can have a really good community if you participate civilly in it. It really isnt that hard, just annoying in certain cities. I know that i have been complimented by many many people for helping them out, or for being a good healer when i have my mesmer act as one.

I am really hoping that some people will be instituted to mod some of the behavior in cities, but overall im happy with the community everwhere i have been, exempting the crystal desert from this though, as the desert is full of jackass's and ****wads.

I personally think that the desert is full them is because everybody wants to get to the next area, and because they want to ascend so they can have a different second proffesion (I want a mesmer second, but I havent ascended yet...).

I think it comes down to greed, snobism & well the whole world turning to crap syndrome , which is why most of us prefer to sit in our homes online instead of going to the pub , getting into a fight & being robbed on our way home.. well we have home invasions now .. but thats another story .. or is it . omg so negative lolz.. unfortunaly not far from the truth...

Just remember that if you seek you will find, & you have found, a great lil community named GuildwarsGuru

I think hardest part of coming to a new game on your own is it does make it very lonely & trying to get help is near impossible ingame becuase of all the factors, Personally i wouldve quit if not for these forums, i was so lost ingame , even after reading through the books i still didnt have an understanding of the game, yea its not easy without friends or a sounding board...

Yea its Hard, but its the way the cookie crumbles... Perserverance is a good word that comes to mind

I have played since WPE and know the game in and out pretty much - due to unfortunate events (stuck in Europe) I can't play for a while. (no im not in jail)..

I always answer questions and many a time I help some through a mission or a quest, but I do that less and less because people are f...ing ungrateful. I hav been in districts where some poor soul has begeed for help and I have run him through a mission, or two....then you reach your destination and the sorry sog just disbands ...no thank you ....no nothing...This has happened to often, so I help out less and less.

Helped this guy get a rare max fiery bow. I know a good spot...Dropped for me and I decieded to be nice and give it to the guy...soon as he got ....he said "bye" and was gone..

The same guys that asks a bunch of questions have no patience. You go through a mission and you say stop! Let me explain whats up front and how to solve it....lol - will the noobs listen ? No they are like mad dogs rushing for the gates of hell, waiting on you to be their salvation when the shit hits the fan...die Noobs in your own impatient pool of blood and gore...

he he fun to write stuff like this...

No more helping, since the recipeints are ungrateful bastards, just as much as the helpers supposedly are arrogant and unwilling to help.

I hear ya.... But remember there are still those nice rare gems of people there that will be very gratefull for your help.

Even within a mission/quest I try to state a compliment toward someone. That is IF I can get a chance. Sometimes they move so fast I have no time to type...just recharge/heal and fight on

I go out of my way to help fellow players out. I never had much of a problem getting help or questions answered either when I first started playing. Though now the chat window is filled with trade spam so I shut that off. I also shut emotes off. this keeps the window much cleaner. I'm sorry you are not getting the support you want.

i personally never had any trouble getting help, there are some people who just seem to be on there to act rude, but for the most part people have been civil from my experience on GW, try playing diablo 2 sometime, then you can see how real jerks act

why would anybody stand around asking questions in town anyway? even if somebody happened to be looking at their chat bar. What are the odds they will spot your question as it scrolls by amidst all the WTS, please join my guild, and fur square spam? the odds that somebody in ascalon for more than 3 minutes actually knows the answer are pretty slim.

People ask questions in towns because there are a lot of people around; this gives a chance of many possible people to answer them. I try to help as much as I can, and I do answer their questions as best I can. I also leave the TC on, just in case there's something for me to buy (heck, it's happened before). The odds of spotting the question increase when you skim (v: To read or glance through (a book, for example) quickly or superficially.) Of course, I probably pay more attention to the chat in town than others. If I saw something I'd like to respond to, I just hit ~ and scroll up to it.

I've never had a problem with unhelpful people. When I was pre-sear I new there were alot of players working on a second character that were around specifically because they wanted to help...and I took great advantage of this. I even made efforts to pay some people that were overly helpful and they wouldn't take it. When I went post-sear I had no problems finding monks or warriors that wanted to run me places. Some of them wanted gold for it most of them didn't. As far as I can tell this community is one of the best online communities around. If you don't agree go play counter strike for a day.
